Practices are expected to publish clearer prices for standard services.
Prescription fees
Prescription-writing fees are expected to be capped — filling online can be cheaper.
Written prescriptions
You can ask your vet for a written prescription instead of buying in-practice.

Published, not invented
Prices come from publicly available clinic price lists, where we find them. We never invent or estimate a missing price.
"Not listed" means not listed
If a clinic does not publish a price online, we show it as "Not listed" rather than guess.
Straight from the clinic
Each price is recorded from the clinic's own fee page or price list, with a link back to the source where available.
Confirm before you book
Vet fees can change and may not include everything. Confirm the total with the clinic before booking.

Frequently asked questions
- How does Petfair collect vet prices?
- We gather publicly listed prices directly from UK veterinary practice websites. Prices are checked and updated regularly. We never show estimated or made-up figures — if a clinic has not published its fees online, we show "Not listed" rather than guess.
- Are vet prices regulated in the UK?
- Most vet fees are still set by individual practices, so prices can vary significantly. Following the CMA's investigation, clearer price lists, prescription-fee changes and stronger ownership transparency are expected to become more common. Petfair helps pet owners compare the prices that are already publicly available today.
- Why do vet prices vary so much?
- Prices differ based on location (London practices typically charge more than rural ones), practice type (24-hour emergency clinics charge a premium), equipment, staff experience, and whether the practice is part of a corporate group. Comparing prices before you book can save you a significant amount.
- How many UK vet practices does Petfair cover?
- Our directory currently holds 6,857 UK veterinary practices. Of those, 1,353 have at least one procedure price publicly listed on their website, across 4,085 different procedure types.
- Is Petfair free to use?
- Yes, completely free. We do not charge pet owners to search or compare prices, and we do not take referral fees from clinics.
- How often is pricing data updated?
- We re-check clinic pricing pages on a rolling basis. Each price row shows a "last checked" date where available. If you spot a price that looks out of date, the clinic's own website is always the authoritative source.
